the new within the frame of life)

Extended Abstract

Illumanesimo — from the fusion of Umanesimo (Humanism) and Illuminismo (Enlightenment): Esperienze is the second volume of the corpus of the eponymous philosophy.

1. Situating the Work within the Illumanesimo Corpus

Esperienze, the second volume of the Illumanesimo corpus, serves as a bridge between the introductory volume L’Illumanesimo — which presents the overall framework of the new philosophical paradigm — and the subsequent volumes: La Realtà and Il senso di ogni vita, which explore in greater depth, respectively, the ontological structure of universal Reality and the individual existential dimension; CEFA — Proposta di indagine, which proposes a new inquiry into the existence of the CEFA (Campo Energetico di Forze Autocoscienti — Energy Field of Self-Aware Forces); and the three volumes of dialogue with the history of thought — Metafisica necessaria, Il filo d’oro della filosofia, and Oltre il nulla e la Gloria — which open the dialogue with contemporary philosophy and with the great traditions of Western thought.

The very title of the work — Esperienze: in viaggio verso il nuovo dentro il quadro della vita (Experiences: Journeying toward the new within the frame of life) — anticipates its programmatic function: to inaugurate a philosophical exploration that moves from the fundamental questions concerning the origin and nature of the human being toward a new existential proposal. The subtitle suggests the twofold dynamic that runs through the entire volume: on the one hand, the movement toward the new, understood as a critical movement beyond traditional conceptions; on the other, the rootedness in the “frame of life” — that is, the constant attentiveness to the concreteness of embodied experience.

Within the Illumanesimo cultural project, Esperienze assumes a precise strategic function: to render accessible the anthropological foundations of the philosophical theorem, preparing the conceptual ground for the more rigorous ontological and metaphysical elaborations developed in the subsequent volumes. In this sense, the work simultaneously represents a privileged point of entry for the reader and an indispensable theoretical pillar for the comprehension of the system as a whole.

2. Structure and Thematic Organization

The volume is organized into seventeen chapters, structured according to an argumentative progression that moves from epistemological foundations toward ethical and social implications. The architecture of the work may be schematized into four broad thematic sections.

2.1. Methodological and Epistemological Prolegomena

The introductory chapters (Introduction, Presentation, The Capacity for Critique) establish the methodological coordinates of the inquiry. Particular attention is devoted to the question of the origin of the human species, conjoining Darwinism and critical capacity — the latter understood not as a mere intellectual exercise but as an existential prerequisite for every authentic search for meaning, one that takes its origin from an encounter between physics and metaphysics, between body and Spirit. An epistemic stance is delineated that rejects both faith-based dogmatism and nihilistic relativism, proposing instead an approach that unites argumentative rigor with speculative openness.

2.2. Ontological Anthropology

The central core of the work (What Is the Human Being, The Spirit, The Soul: A Bridge between Spirit and Body, Consciousness) develops the Illumanesimo philosophical anthropology. The human being is conceived as a dual entity, resulting from the dynamic interaction between a universal component — the CEFA — and a material component, the biological body.

The soul emerges as a key concept: not an autonomous substantial entity, but rather an energetic interface that renders possible the bidirectional communication between the spiritual dimension and the corporeal dimension. Illumanesimo proposes a functional definition of the soul that surpasses both the Platonic conceptions of substantial dualism and materialistic reductions, articulating it as a dynamic “bridge” whose structure is itself modeled by the Spirit in accordance with the specific requirements of each incarnation.

Particular prominence is accorded to the treatment of the origin of the human being, which integrates Darwinian evolution with the hypothesis of a further qualitative dimension: the CEFA, which connects to the human being by virtue of the development of a biopsychic structure unique within the animal kingdom. The work proposes a conception of consciousness articulated at two qualitatively distinct levels: species-consciousness, bound to the biological and psychic processes of the material body; and spiritual consciousness, the expression of the self-awareness and axiological capacity proper to the CEFA. This distinction constitutes one of the most innovative elements of the Illumanesimo proposal, offering an interpretive key for phenomena otherwise irreducible to the categories of empirical psychology alone.

2.3. Existential Dynamics

The section devoted to existential dynamics (The Existential Project and the Obstacles to Its Realization, Materiality, Experiences, The Meaning of Life, The Body–Spirit Relationship) constitutes the operative core of the work. Here the concept of the existential program is developed: a project elaborated by the CEFA prior to incarnation, which delineates the fundamental experiences to be accomplished through that specific corporeal life.

The existential program is not conceived as a rigid destiny or fatalistic predetermination, but rather as a flexible guiding framework that responds to the evolutionary necessity of the Spirit. The work underscores that this program is not “legible” by the incarnate individual in explicit form, manifesting itself instead through lines of tendency, deep inclinations, spontaneous interests, and inner needs that emerge over the course of existence.

Central is the process of symbolization: the mechanism through which material experiences are transformed into permanent spiritual knowledge. This process is articulated in successive phases — concrete experience, conscious evaluation, abstraction and symbolization, translation by the soul, integration into the CEFA — and requires attentiveness, will, reflection, and existential depth.

It is neither automatic nor guaranteed: two individuals may live through the same experience while extracting radically different forms of knowledge from it — both on account of the greater or lesser degree of voluntary and attentive participation of the subjects, and in accordance with the evolutionary level of the CEFA and its degree of interest in that specific experience.

2.4. Ethical and Social Implications

The final section (Good and Evil, Ethics and Morality, Educational Models and the Young, Modernity, Philosophy, and Ontological Inquiry, The Transition from Old to New) extends the implications of the anthropological theory to the domains of ethics, pedagogy, and social philosophy.

Particularly innovative is the reconfiguration of the concepts of good and evil: no longer opposing and symmetrical principles, but different phases of a single evolutionary process. Good is recognized as an authentic universal principle, fixed and immutable; evil, far from being an autonomous entity at the cosmic level, represents rather an “immature” state of good in evolution — a transitory stage in the path of the acquisition of knowledge and wisdom.

This perspective entails significant consequences for ethics: the distinction between private morality — concerning the individual’s relationship with themselves and the personal definition of good and evil — and public ethics — pertaining to the shared rules of social coexistence — becomes an interpretive instrument for understanding the historical evolution of normative conceptions and for orienting their future development.

The chapter on educational models represents one of the most ambitious developments of the work, proposing a radical rethinking of educational systems from an existential perspective. A critique is advanced of traditional educational models, oriented toward producing “conforming citizens” rather than individuals capable of self-determination; the work then outlines the principles of an educational model that values individual differences, develops autonomy in existential choices, and promotes critical thinking. It is acknowledged that much has been accomplished relative to the past, yet much remains still to be undertaken from an Illumanist perspective.

3. Fundamental Theses and Theoretical Contribution

Esperienze advances a series of interconnected theses that constitute the foundation of Illumanesimo anthropology.

Ontological duality of the human being. The human being results from the co-presence of two ontologically distinct yet functionally integrated components: the CEFA (a spiritual, self-aware, free, and incorruptible principle) and the biological body (a temporary material structure, subject to physical laws). This duality does not imply necessary conflict, but rather an evolutionary collaboration oriented toward knowledge.

The soul as functional interface. Surpassing both Cartesian dualism and materialist reductionism, the soul is conceived as an energetic “bridge” that translates the mutually incompatible languages of Spirit and matter, rendering their reciprocal influence possible. Not an autonomous substantial entity, but a dynamic structure personalized by the CEFA to meet the specific requirements of each incarnation.

Incarnation as evolutionary choice. Contrary to conceptions that interpret incarnation as a fall, punishment, or expiation, Illumanesimo presents it as a free choice of the Spirit motivated by cognitive necessity. Matter is not a prison but a field of experience: the only means by which the Spirit may know from within that which is radically other than itself.

The existential program as orientation. Every incarnation responds to a project elaborated by the CEFA — not as a rigid destiny but as a line of tendency that identifies the experiences of highest evolutionary priority. The program manifests through deep inclinations, spontaneous interests, and inner needs, not through explicit instructions.

Symbolization as the central epistemic mechanism. The passage from material experience to spiritual knowledge requires an active process of conscious elaboration, abstraction, and translation. It is not an automatic transfer, but existential labor requiring attentiveness, reflection, and depth.

The evolutionary perspective on good and evil. Surpassing traditional ethical dualism, the work proposes a vision of evil as an immature stage of good rather than as an autonomous and opposing principle. This reconfiguration has significant consequences both for individual morality and social ethics, and for the understanding of the historical evolution of normative conceptions.

4. Methodology and Argumentative Style

The methodological approach of Esperienze is distinguished by certain peculiar characteristics that reflect the overall epistemic stance of Illumanesimo.

In the first place, across all the works of Illumanesimo, an accessible linguistic register is consciously adopted, distancing itself from the technical jargon typical of academic philosophical discourse. This choice responds to a precise communicative intention: to render the contents of the work usable by a public interested in existential questions without forfeiting conceptual depth. The aim is to “adapt the cultural, intellectual, and linguistic instruments to the historical-cultural context” without altering the meaning of the messages. This may represent a risk with respect to the classical expectations of the academic and philosophical world in particular; yet the choice to simplify has prevailed over the rigidity of established conventions, trusting not so much in how concepts are expressed as in their intrinsic force. If they are valid, they remain so regardless of the language that expresses them; if they are not, no academic coherence would be capable of elevating their value. And if the language alone is enough to turn a reader away, then these ideas were likely not addressed to that reader in the first place.

In the second place, the work — within the three volumes Esperienze, La Realtà, and Il senso di ogni vita — programmatically avoids direct engagement with other philosophical traditions, limiting itself to essential references when strictly functional to the argument. These three volumes serve to present Illumanesimo without allowing itself to be “distracted” by other lines of thought. The volumes L’Illumanesimo, Metafisica necessaria, Il filo d’oro della filosofia, and Oltre il nulla e la Gloria fulfill, by contrast, this function of comparative dialogue as well.

In the third place, the argumentative method privileges logical-deductive construction over the accumulation of empirical evidence, while maintaining a constant reference to concrete experience. Illumanesimo presents itself as a philosophical “theorem” — a system of interconnected propositions that proceeds from fundamental premises toward derived consequences — without, however, claiming the status of demonstrated truth. The proposal calls for critical examination and reasoned discussion, not faith-based adherence.

5. Perspectives and Developments within the Illumanesimo Project

Esperienze systematically prepares the ground for the subsequent developments of the Illumanesimo corpus and for its possible growth into a fully developed cultural proposal. The themes introduced here find rigorous deepening and foundation in the following volumes according to a precise logic of complementarity.

La Realtà resumes and develops the conception of the CEFA, of universal Reality, and of the relationship with the divine in a properly ontological and metaphysical perspective, furnishing the theoretical foundation for the theses here presented in more discursive form.

Il senso di ogni vita deepens the dynamics of incarnation, the process of symbolization, and the question of existential meaning, articulating the practical and transformative dimension of Illumanesimo philosophy.

CEFA — Proposta di indagine represents the methodological opening toward possible indirect empirical testing of the Illumanist hypotheses, proposing an interdisciplinary research program aimed at identifying possible empirical indicators — deep individual tendencies, persistent axiological inclinations, existential orientations irreducible to genetic and cultural determinations — compatible with the existence of the CEFA.

Metafisica necessaria situates Illumanesimo within the context of contemporary philosophical debate, entering into dialogue with relevant authors and traditions — from existentialism to phenomenology, from Neoplatonism to philosophy of mind — and articulating the Illumanist diagnosis of the crisis of metaphysics in the age of technology.

Il filo d’oro della filosofia extends the dialogue to the great traditions of Western thought, from Socrates to the French existentialists, testing the coherence of the proposal against the perennial questions of philosophy.

Oltre il nulla e la Gloria concludes the comparative phase with the most demanding encounter: the confrontation with Emanuele Severino on Being, becoming, and nothingness.

6. Conclusions

Esperienze takes shape as a work of transition and foundation: transition from the introductory level to the theoretically articulated one; foundation of Illumanesimo anthropology as a prerequisite for the subsequent ontological elaborations.

Its specific contribution resides in having rendered accessible — without trivializing it — a vision of the human being that surpasses both materialist reductionism and Cartesian dualism, proposing a dynamic and functional conception of the relationship between the spiritual dimension and the corporeal dimension. The soul as “bridge,” the existential program as non-deterministic orientation, symbolization as an active epistemic process: these are the key concepts that the work introduces and that the subsequent volumes develop systematically.

As I underscore in the conclusions, “the road ahead will be long, but rich with possibility.” L’Illumanesimo has laid the conceptual foundations; Esperienze represents the first step of this path, the opening of a space of inquiry in which such questions may be posed with conceptual rigor and lived with existential authenticity.
